Binding Thoughts
I am not an expert in rope, nor will I ever claim to be.
A am perpetual learner of shibari/kinbaku and interested in many topics and pursuits.
From time to time I’ll post articles I’ve written or share random thoughts that are rope related or otherwise.
And, if what I write strikes a cord, contact me and say “hello.”

Kinbaku – An Evolving Era – Part 1
KINBAKU TODAY CHRISTMAS DEBATE
The COVID crisis has given us all pause for thought. Seeing how Kinbaku has evolved, is a new era appearing on the horizon, and what will impact its evolution?
I had the opportunity to facilitate a virtual discussion about this with Ugo san of SMpedia, Marc BeShibari and Sin. Their valuable insights and honest assessments led to a very lively discussion, and I humbly thank them for their participation.
Interview: Milla Reika – Kinbaku Diaries
What a year 2020 has been.
For those of us in the world community of Kinbaku practitioners and enthusiasts, the advent of the Covid-19 virus has brought about a significant change in the status quo.
One aspect of Kinbaku that I believe makes it special to us is the intimacy of rope. Being able to convey emotion, feeling, and heart through touch and contact with others. For years we all enjoyed live performances, in person group teaching salons, and one on one learning.
No longer.
The Ascent of Milla Reika (Part Two)
Prior to arriving in Japan, Milla Reika had never heard of Kinbaku. It was not until well over a year into her stay that she would begin to learn about the hidden world of Japan’s SM culture and its connection to rope.
What brought you to Japan? Was it to learn Kinbaku?
It was nothing related to Kinbaku at all. It was just pure curiosity. I’d been back packing around the world for about three years prior, and was looking for somewhere to settle down for a year or two and just experience the culture and see what it was all about. That was during the time when I discovered Kinbaku and started on a completely different journey than what I went there for.
The Ascent of Milla Reika (Part 1)
Milla Reika.
An exotic sounding name. As exotic as the prospect of traveling alone around the world seeking adventure and discovering what the world has to offer. Something that the then twenty-year old Australian native did when she left her home in 2006. Three years later, Milla found herself in Japan for what she thought would be a short-term stay.
Little did she know that her visit to the land of the rising sun would eventually lead her to become one of Japan’s most recognized female Kinbaku practitioners, renowned for her dynamic suspension transitions, creativity, and sensually erotic stage performances. In 2019, Milla’s journey of discovery continues unabated as she challenges conventions and herself, always broadening her horizons.
